WELCOME... WE ARE OLA!
OLA (Otara-Youth-Hub Leadership Army) is an Otara youth led movement made up of diverse youth & young adults living in Otara & Papatoetoe who collectively have a goal to re-imagine the community they live in for the better for themselves and their peers. They are youth who have an interest in re-imagining & contributing to positive change for Otara & Papatoetoe from the ground up, who are keen to invest in their own personal growth, meet other like-minded young people while having and being an essential positive Vibe & Role model to others. OLA crew members are supported to grow their leadership skills through both paid & voluntary community project work experience, national & overseas travel, personal & professional development opportunities at conferences, wananga, talanoa & training seminars. They are also supported to identify needs in their community and come up with an initiative(s) to help. This may be a one day event or an ongoing project. By creating and delivering their own initiatives, young people learn project management skills such as:
- Taking collective action for the care of other people
- Understanding how to participate collectively in response to community challenges

This is the biggest signature event in Otara and the core organisers and workers for this event are our youth. They spend their end of year holidays working with us to finalize planning and putting everything together including building street activation's, signs and more. This is a huge event that happens over 3-5 consecutive themed nights that requires youth to be spread out across a whole block of streets to look after street activation's, main stages, talent and more. Check out the video of what this event looks like here. Over 40k attended last year.
